A New Job
After an extensive interview process that had some scheduling issues that took a bit of time and coordination to work out I finally completed the process and received and accepted a new job offer. I will be retiring from AT&T and going to work at NorthwesternMutual. I am really excited about the new job. The environment is going to be a bit different than what I have been working on but the locations are local and I can split work from home with being in the office. I am looking forward to actually working with a team in person again.

Calibrating Weather Station
This Spring I received a Weather Station for my Birthday. It was something that I had wanted to do for some time and so far I am happy I did it. The Tempest Weather Station is a newer technology for Weather Stations as it has no moving parts. For the most part I have been very please with the Tempest and it has been fairly accurate with one exception. That exception is rainfall. The haptic rain sensor has been off by quite a bit according to the rain gauge that I have about 10 feet away. I am currently going through the process to have the station calibrated by the vendor to see if we can increase the accuracy. I hope so but even if the rain is not the most accurate, I have found the rest of the station to provide good data and I enjoy having it.

Interview Experience
Had an interview today and it was kind of a different experience because of Covid. I was on a Zoom call with an interview with members of the organization that I would be working in. The interview was a mixture of technical content along with getting to know more about me and how I might fit in with the company. I think it went well.

Quick Trip to New York
So it was announced recently that the Phantom of the Opera would be closing on Broadway in the Spring of 2023. Both of my daughters are huge Phantom fans so we decided to make a quick family vacation in early December to see it on Broadway and do a little site seeing. My oldest daughter is the only one of us that has been to New York before so it should be an interesting trip. We decided to stay near Times Square so that we were within walking distance of where we wanted to be for the short time we would be there. We flew in on the night that they were doing the big Christmas Tree lighting and thought that might be fun to go to but found that we had seriously under planned for that. We would have had to have been in line much earlier. We did do a little sight seeing the first night and then called it a night. We didn’t get to sleep as early as planned though since there was a fire alarm at our Hotel around 10:30. Hearing a fire alarm when you are in a room 30 floors up is a bit unnerving.
The second day of our trip was the day that we were going to see a Matinee performance of Phantom. We were going to spend the morning on a tour of New York Theatre provided by a relative who lives in New York. Her company, Tours by the Back Stage Blonde does tours for groups and we had been gifted a tour. Teale did a great job of showing us around and the morning went by quickly and it was time for a quick lunch before the show. When we got to the Theatre it was a bit surreal for the girls. They were actually here. The show was everything we expected and more. We had a great time.
We had an early afternoon flight Friday so we didn’t do much sight seeing before we had to head back to the Airport. It was a quick but enjoyable trip. I would like to go back some day to see more of the City.
