Connecting Blog and Facebook

I spent a little time this weekend trying to figure out how to connect my Blog and Facebook. I have had my Blog longer but I spend more time on Facebook as that is where many friends and games are. I didn't want to give up my Blog site though since there are still some people that I want to be able to see some things that I post that don't have or want Facebook accounts.

I started out by thinking that maybe I could setup an RSS feed here to import my Facebook status and that would keep this site more up to date. That ended up not being an option since Facebook has made if very difficult to export your status outside of Facebook.

I did some research and found that Twitter would allow me to do some of what I wanted. I could post short updates on Twitter and those updates would be propagated to Facebook automatically. I installed the Twitter module for Drupal here and now those Twitter updates get posted to a block on my website as well. This also works well since I have this setup so that when I post a blog entry here, a link to that blog gets sent to both Twitter and Facebook. So far this looks like it will workout well.

One of the driving forces for me to get this in place now is that the San Diego 3 Day is only 39 Days away. I like being able to post pictures and short updates during the 3 Day so that those that donated to my walk can see how I am doing throughout the weekend.

I think this is going to work out just fine. Between Twitter for Status Messages and Flickr for Pictures, I am all set.

Goodbye to Geeks and God

I was a little bummed out today when I found out that my favorite Podcast was coming to an end. The guys over at Geeks and God had put out a weekly podcast all about Technology in Churches and Ministries and I looked forward to listening to it every week. I learned a lot about Drupal listening to those guys and following up by looking for answers in the forums on their website. I will miss listening to them but from the sound of their last podcast, they are on to a great opportunity that will allow them to use the gifts that God has given them in a new way. God Bless Guys.

Long Walk Today

I got out and did my longest training walk of the year so far. I walked just over 15.5 miles and still felt okay afterwards. I need to get a couple more long walks in before San Diego. The trouble is the weather is starting to get cooler and it's going to be nicer in San Diego than my training walks here

Missing in Action?

I have not been posting to my Blog here much lately. I seem to spend more time over on Facebook. I am going to try and get back to posting here at least somewhat regularly. I have been busy with work and training for the San Diego 3 Day. In exactly 56 Days from today I will be in San Diego for Day 1 of the 3 Day there. I am really looking forward to it. I have some more training to do yet but I am getting there. I walked 9 miles twice this week and am going to try to fit in 12-15 Saturday or Sunday this weekend.

Good Web Support

This morning I was having some problems with getting to my website. I opened a support ticket with Future Hosting and within 10 minutes I had a reply from them explaining the situation. I have been with Future Hosting since January and have yet to have a bad experience with them. I have asked questions and received prompt answers, and asked for things to be installed and it has been done quickly.

Team Dinner

Went to Chicago last night to have Dinner with my 3 Day team even though I am not walking this weekend. It was great seeing everyone. We had a much smaller group this year but still had a nice time.

Extreme Pogo Stick

Last weekend at a family get together, one of the younger members of the family was showing off his Extreme Pogo Stick Skills. He has a professional Pogo Stick that he can use a air pump to adjust the stiffness of the sick to account for different environments. He can get better than 6 feet high when bouncing and can do both forward and backward flips on it. The picture is of my daughter on the pogo stick at rest.

First Training Walk

I finally got out and started training for the San Diego 3 Day. It was a short 3.5 Mile walk but at least it got me out and got things stretched out. The weather is finally decent and I needed to get out since we are just under 200 days now. I will probably do another couple short walks before kicking it up to 5 miles for a short time.

iBlogger and Drupal

One of the concerns that I had when I was planning the conversion of my blog to drupal was the ability to post to my blog from my phone. I had found a utility that allowed me to to that under Wordpress and I wanted that with Drupal also. I found iBlogger and so far it is working out better than I had expected. Maybe I will post more often now.

New Blog Platform

You might notice the blog page looks kind of plain right now. I decided to get rid of the Wordpress software that I had been using and convert to Drupal. Drupal is the content management system that I have been working with. I have converted my blog entries but have not themed the site yet but it should look better within a week or so.
