Exercise - Starting Again

So earlier this year I decided to start to exercise more and for some time I did a pretty good job.  From mid February through most of June I was doing a great job. I started at 10k steps a day and after a month worked up to 12k steps a day. I was hitting my goal every day and was watching what I ate.  Just before New Years I was up to 203 lbs.  In June I was down to 187 lbs before my schedule got all messed up due to a number of issues.  Since then I have not exercised as much and have not done a very good job of watching what I ate and I was back up to 193.  Today I started exercising again.  I am once again starting at 10k steps a day and will do that for a month before moving the goal up.  I have a goal of hitting 185 or maybe 180 before the end of the year.

It's a Start

A couple weeks ago I finally decided that I have to get in better shape and start exercising on a regular basis.  As of today I have been meeting my 10K step goal for 16 consecutive days.  I have also dropped about 8 pounds from my high weight just before the end of the year.  I have a ways to go before I meet my goals but it's a step in the right direction.

New Fitbit - Love It

My Fitbit Charge 3 had become very difficult to read so I decided I needed a change.  I tried a Garmin Smart Watch but I was not satisfied with some of it's features and I decided to go back to the Fitbit Ecosystem.  I decided to try an Fitbit Versa 2 and I am glad I did.  The AMOLED Display is quite nice and easy to read and with many different watch faces available  found one that I really like.  I also got rid of the standard Silicon band and put on a nylon band that was less than $10 and I am really happy with it.  Now that I am happy with my new Fitbit it's time to start trying to use it on a regular basis

Hello 2016

It's the first day of 2016 and I am going to try to do some things differently in 2016 than I did in 2015.  First of all I am going to concentrate more on Fitness.  I started this in 2015 but am going to carry this through all of 2016 and really emphasize it.  I am going to use my Fitbit every day and going to try to walk at least 5 miles a day.  I joined an online challenge to walk at least 1000 miles in 2016 and I should be able to do that.  I have walked over 800 miles since August when I started concentrating on getting back into shape.  I am also going to continue to work on my weight this year.  When I started last August I was about 19o.  I worked myself down to 177 by the end of the year.  By the end of 2016 I would like to be about 160.

Blogging and learning are another thing I would like to concentrate on in 2016.  I am going to try and use my blog site at least once a week to post about something I am doing.  I haven't decided what I am going to concentrate on learning in 2016 yet.  Most days when I am done with work I really don't feel much like learning more about Networking.  It would be good for me but I am not sure I want to do that.  Maybe I will concentrate on learning a programming language like Python or Perl.  Will have to get back to that.

I would also like to read more in 2016.  I read a number of books in 2015 and plan to continue that in 2016.  Baen has quite a few authors that I enjoy and I would like to read more new stories and not reread as many older books in 2016.

I guess that's all I have to start out 2016.  Hoping  it's a good year.

10 Weeks

It has now been 10 weeks since I started exercising every day and watching what I eat.  I feel better when I get a chance to start the day with exercise but I have been making sure that even when I need to catch up late in the day I am doing that.  I have hit my 10K steps each day for these 70 days.  I have also been tracking my food each day with an app on my phone and I am down 12 lbs in those 70 days.  I do need to start working on adding some flexibility and strength training as I drop weight.

Still At It

It has now been over 7 weeks since I started walking every day and tracking my food in MyFitnessPal. It's not always easy to find time to exercise but it's important and I have been sticking to it. Getting results helps to find the time. When I started this my weight was starting to to het away from me again and I was back up to 190. I am now almost to my first goal of 180. I decided to set my goals at 10 pounds at a time. When I started I was walking about 30 minutes a day and I am now up to at least an hour a day. I feel a lot better now than when I started. I can't wait to set a new goal when the first is behind me.

First Milestone

For the last year or more I have been trying to get into a routine of getting more exercise and watching what I eat to lose weight and be healthier.  I have had limited success.  Last week I signed up for a membership at the South Milwaukee Fitness Center to have a place to workout and for my daughter to practice for baton.  I have found that I much prefer their walking track to my treadmill.  I will still use my treadmill when I can't get over there or I need some extra steps in a day but I am going to try to get over there for at least an hour of walking each day.  Today marks my seventh day in a row of both walking at least 10k steps and logging my food with MyFitnessPal so that I can watch what I eat.  It's not a huge deal but it's a first step in the right direction.

Back to Fitness Routine

For the last several months I have not been getting nearly enough exercise.  I just didn't have enough energy to do much.  I was diagnosed as anemic in January and have adjusted my stomach meds and am taking iron supplements to address that issue.  I finally feel like I can try to get back into some kind of routine to start working back to shape to walk in the 3-Day in October.  I am going back to tracking my steps with my fitbit and using myfitnesspal to track calories so that I can try to lose weight and get in better shape at the same time.  I started out today with half an hour on the treadmill and hope to work up to an hour within a week or two.
