Computer Change of Plans

I had decided to get rid of my 2015 Macbook Pro and get a 2018 Mac Mini instead.  My plans changed due to some issues with the Mac Mini.  The biggest issue I had was that I could not connect the new Mac Mini out of the box to my existing monitors.  Apple changed something in the boot process and the resolution that the adapter used during the boot process for the HDMI interface would not connect to my existing monitors.  I was able to get around that by connecting the Mini to a TV in my office but I really did not want to have to run a cable across the room every time I needed to reboot the Mac Mini.  What a pain.  I have now read about others with similar issues that have had some success using a USB-C to DVI Adapter and connecting there instead but I decided that I didn't want to deal with it and sent the Mac Mini back.  I am just going to upgrade the storage on my MacBook Pro and keep using it for a while.

Goodbye Macbook Pro

The last time I bought a new Mac it was a 2011 Macbook Pro.  I was quite satisfied with that Laptop for a number of years.  You could actually replace/repair RAM, Optical Drives, and Hard Drives in that model.  After some time I got rid of that Macbook when I started having issues with the dedicated GPU.  I moved up to a 2014 Macbook Pro that I bought used off eBay.  I kept that for about a year before selling that to get a used Mac Pro since I had always wanted a Mac Pro.  I liked the power that the Mac Pro had but didn't like the size and heat it generated and sold it to get a 2015 Macbook Pro again off of eBay.  I have been using that for a while now but have decided to part ways with it.  I looked back at my usage for the last year or two and there have been very few instances when I really needed to have a Laptop and used it away from my Desk.  I decided to sell my Macbook while the value was still decent and pick up a 2018 Mac Mini.  The Mac Mini gives me more power for the price and you can actually still upgrade the RAM on these.  It's not an easy process but there are plenty of videos on YouTube to lead.  Should have my Mac Mini next week and am anxious to see how well it performs.

Komen 3-Day 10th Walk Delayed

I had planned to be in San Diego this weekend for my 10th Susan G. Komen for the Cure event.  I am not there this weekend because I had some things going on at home that really were more important than being away this weekend.  I have contacted the Komen Coaches and they were able to roll my donations into next year so I am in pretty good shape for 2020 in Dallas.  I hope that my teammates and all that are walking in San Diego have a great weekend.

Wordpress to Blogger - Getting Close

I am about 90% to my goal of getting my Blogger blog up to the point that my Wordpress Blog is at.  I did a little google searching this afternoon and finally figured out how to get the Menu working.  I still have to find a way to embed a countdown timer and figure how I want to deal with my list of people that I walk for but I am getting really close and am pretty happy about that.  I was not sure I was going to be able to come up with anything on Blogger that would be close to what I had on Wordpress and am pretty excited about how close I have gotten.

Wordpress to Blogger

I am in the process of converting my blog from Wordpress to Blogger.  I don't use my blog all that often but I have had it for some time so I don't want to just delete it.  I decided earlier this year that I would not be paying for hosting for my Wordpress site after my current hosting contract is up in the fall of 2020 so I have been playing with Blogger as an alternative.  I am actually pleasantly surprised that I have been able to import my content and have found a template that I can live with.  I am still in the process of tweaking the template and site to replicate most of what I have with Wordpress but I am about 90% there now.  Since Blogger is associated with my Google account that makes access to it easy for me and I don't have to pay extra for the hosting.

Mac Pro Experiment Done

Last fall I purchased a used Mac Pro because I had always wanted one and found a decent deal on one locally. I made a number of updates to it and enjoyed using it but I decided this summer that the experiment had run its course. The Mac Pro had plenty of power for running some multi threaded apps but most of my daily work did not really benefit from it. I also really missed having a computer that I could take with me when I wanted to work some where other than my desk. I ended up selling it this summer and replaced it with a 2015 MacBook Pro. I am not really ready to make the jump to the new Macs with all USB C ports so this Mac is the best I can get.
